The Tale of the Dust Ruffle

Tom and I are goofs sometimes…

The two weeks we were at the vacation house (home now, sadly), there was a weird hump running down the middle of our king bed. We figured the mattress was just shot and they’d replace it. It wasn’t a huge deal so we just ignored it.

The last night we were there, I was in the kitchen cleaning up and Tom was in the bedroom unplugging stuff and getting the first of the packing going. I hear a big THUD… followed by Tom sticking his head out of the door and telling me, “Um. I broke the bed.” This, of course, caused peals of laughter from me telling him that I’m SO NOT telling these people that we broke their bed (and yes, we are 12).

So, we started taking the bed apart and it was up on risers. Thankfully, Tom just knocked it over, but not down. AND one of the lower box springs were up on the side rail and THAT is what was causing the hump. We felt a little like idiots, but hey, at least I don’t owe these folks a new bed!

It was a 3 person job taking this thing apart and putting it back together so it didn’t slide off the risers again, so we had quite a fun time actually putting it back together… but then, we noticed that we forgot to put the dust ruffle back on. Crap! It was late and we were tired, we figured we would deal with it later…

… but we forgot… so I got a reply email from the homeowner today saying “Just curious – but why did you take the bed ruffle off the master bed. Really just curious (its no great crime!!Ha)” — surely she thinks we are crazy house people that come and take apart beds for no good reason.

*laugh* I bet they are scratching their heads trying to come up with a good reason as to why in the world we took the dust ruffle off *laugh*

I was thinking I’d not respond for a few days and let them come up with all these interesting ideas as to why in the world someone would take apart a bed and remove the dust ruffle.

Nah, I’m not that cruel.

But they will surely think we’re crazy – at least we got rid of the hump in the bed!

… the things Tom and I get ourselves into, I tell you! But we had a really great laugh and will forever remember the night we broke the vacation home’s bed!

We needed to replace the water in the kid’s pool last month (finding old photos here folks!)… Tom had a unique way of doing that…

I wish I had got a pic of Tom on his big day, but we had such a great time with his party that I forgot. I’m glad I remembered to get pictures of his Battlestar Galatica cake though! My friend, Julie, made it and it was fantastic!

I’m so proud of Tom. He stuck with it and made really good grades. It was hard work, I know it was, but he DID IT. It makes me very proud of him.

Note: the emblem was piped out with candy, so it was edible and she airburshed the silver on. Amazing.

(Tom’s birthday is in January, I’m just really behind on posting stuff!)

He had a trip out of town and I didn’t want him to have to take the boat anchor laptop, so I got him a netbook eeePC, but I got his friend to have him meet him for lunch and I was there to surprise him. Tom was SO clueless. I walked up, he saw me and assumed I just happened to be there for lunch for no apparent reason. Yes, Tom, I regularly go 20 minutes away for lunch on random Thursdays. *laugh* I am not even sure he “got it” when I brought out the wrapped gifts. It was several days in advance, but still! It was HILARIOUS!

So… my tooth thing is an ongoing nightmare. It was still hurting over the weekend and on Sunday it got really really bad. Bad enough that I called the dentist on call and begged for drugs to get through the night. I read some stuff online and Tom looked back there and thought he saw white (maybe a bone) so I figured I had a dry socket. It hurt BAD. He called in some vicodin. I absolutely do not like vicodin, but it does the job – it helps with the pain a little, but more than that, it makes it so that I don’t CARE about the pain. It affects me BIG TIME. I get high as a kite.

So, I call when the dentist opens and go in… it’s not a dry socket, but it’s STILL infected. STILL. I need to work, so she numbed me with Novocaine so I’d have a few hours and gave me more vicodin. Oh, and gave me MORE antibiotics. I am in that place where I want to curl up in a ball and just cry. If it doesn’t get better, she’ll dig it out, clean it out again and basically start all over. It will get better though. It will. Or I will go completely insane.

So, that’s why I’m not posting much. I have a pile of pictures to go through and other random stuff, but I’m just trying to work when I’m not floating around all happy.

In other news, Tom has started this blog – check it out. It’s called Life in 15 Minutes and it’s really very sweet. Tom is the sweetest man I’ve ever met. I probably don’t say it enough, but he is my heart and soul and he picks me up when I need it. I am truly one of the luckiest women in the world.

And, no, that’s not just the vicodin talking. :) Check out the blog – it’s pretty nifty!

Heard From the Kitchen: The Tom Edition

I was standing in the kitchen this morning with Tom and this conversation took place:

Candy: “Wow, that screaming at 3:30 this morning did me in, I didn’t fall back to sleep for 2 hours after kicking them out of the bed.”

Tom: “What screaming?”

Candy: “Seriously? The ear-splitting-wake-the-neighbors screaming from Cassie when I told her she had to go back to her own bed.”

Tom: “Oh, I didn’t hear anything.”

Candy: *amazed look* “It lasted FIVE minutes.”

Tom: “Oh, I didn’t hear anything.”

Candy: *WTF look*

Seriously, how could you NOT hear her? I’m pretty sure the entire neighborhood could hear her. Jamie and her ended up coming into our bed last night – or trying to – I made them go back to their rooms. You’d have thought I was trying to kill them.

How could he NOT hear that?

I also had to wake up Jamie by banging on a pot with a spoon. That didn’t work so I poured water on him.

Oh, yes. I did.

He got up.

It worked, didn’t it?

Soccer Party – medal time!

I didn’t have time this season to make the big soccer cake. A bit sad about that, but perhaps next season – if there is one, Cassie sounds like she wants to move on to something else – perhaps gymnastics.

She did, however, get her medal. She’s very proud of it. Tom had a really good season too. I think if she decides to stop playing, he will miss it way more than she will.

Final Soccer Game of Fall 08

The final soccer game was a week ago and the kids had a great time! It was a pretty relaxed game and even Cassie got in on the action a little more (she’s usually the kid just running around in circles looking at the clouds).

Here she is with Coach Dad – I’m not sure what they were doing, but it appeared to be funny.

The sad part is only 4 families showed up for the last game. Participation seems to taper off. It irks me a bit that the parents don’t see it as a commitment but we know people just get busy, I guess.

Over at Aff-The-Fang, Crystal makes us do random stuff. It’s a lot of fun cuz we all hate Mondays and it’s kinda nice to go see what kind of randomness everyone comes up with.

Just thought I’d share my submission from this week. I think I’m clever :)
